Fact Or Myth?

Hundreds of years ago, a wise man named Timothy, shared some very wise advice. His instructions to those who wanted to serve the true God completely, was not to pay attention to “erratic notions” and “myths” (Translation – Byington – 1 Tim. 1:3,4) Does this advice apply today? Without a doubt, as wrong ideas regarding the Bible and the teachings there in can push people away from true worship. This will discuss 5 ‘Bible Myths’ and supply scriptures that support or dissuade each one.

MYTH 1 – Biblical Miracles are Impossible

FACT: Human Beings have far more to learn about God’s creations. There is not one scientist that can fully explain gravity, precisely efine all the componets of an atom or make the exact natures of time clear to understand. “Can you find out the deep thinkgs of God, or can you find out the very limit of the Almighty?” (Translation – New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures – Job 11:7) As Job recognized centuries ago, such is beyond our comprehension, and our discovery, thus the things of God appear to be truly impossible, however even the most educated scientists are becoming cautious about stating that anything is truly impossible.

MYTH 2 – All religions lead to God.

FACT: “If you remain in my word, you are really my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Jesus shared this fact with us in John 8:31,32a. As common as this scripture is used, have you really considered the deeper meaning? If all religions led to God, would their members need to be set free? Jasus taught that only a few were on the “road leading off into life.” (Translation – New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures – Matthew 7:13,14)

MYTH 3 – All good people go to heaven when they die.

FACT: “The meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace. The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and they will reside forever upon it. Hope in Jehovah and keep his way, and he will exalt you to take possession of the earth.” (Psalm 37:11, 29, 34) Only 144 thousand are discussed as being in heaven with a task to “rule as kings over the earth. (Translation – New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures - Revelation 5:9,10; 14:1,4)

MYTH 4 – The old Testament is not longer useful for Christians

FACT: “All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial….” (Translation – New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures – 2 Tim 3:16,17) “All the things that were written aforetime were written for our instruction, that through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope.” (Same Translation – Romans 15:4) The Hebrew Scriptures are a vital source of spiritual education, and establishes the foundation for faith in the New Testament, or Christian Greek Scriptures.
MYTH 5 – Much of the Book of Genesis, including the Adam and Eve account, is fable.

Luke 3:23-38 is the account of Jesus Christ’s complete genealogy. This goes all the way back to Adam. If Genesis were a myth, where in the genealogy would the real names end and the ‘legendary’ names begin? Jesus Christ, the exemplar of the Christian Faith, believed in what was written as far back as Genesis, Matthew 19:4-6 is affirmation there of. Denying the validity of Genesis is to cast doubt upon Christ himself, as he quoted from it often, as well as many of the spirit blessed bible writers. (1 Chronicles 1:1; 1 Corinthians 15:22; Jude 14)
